Hickey Matt Jim

Hickey Thompson (left) rushed for over 3,000 in 1990. He at that time was only the 12th player in the history of high school football in the USA to rush for as much as 3000 yards in a single season. He ran behind one of the top offensive lines in area high school football history. Matt Gomric (second from top left) was often described as pound for pound, inch for inch the best linebacker in his class which inlcuded two Butkus Award winners, Matt Russell (Belleville East) who played his college ball at Colorado and in the NFL with Detroit (pre-season injuries curtailed his career) and Dana Howard (East St. Louis) who played his college ball at the Univeristy of Illinois and in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams. Matt was selected as the best linebacker in in the country in NCAA Division Three football his senior year at Washington University in St. Louis. Jim Stiebel (third from the top left) is one of the top lineman ever to come out of Metro-East. Jim played at Kansas and in the Arena Professional Football League. Stieb not only played on two Illinois State High School Football Championship teams but also was the starting and winning pitcher in Althoff's state baseball championship game in 1991.
