WEST KEEPS ON GETTING BETTER 1/8/08) The Belleville West Marrons (Girls) continued the team's improved play by riding an 11 point third quarter by Airyn Miller scoring all of her 11 points in the third quarter which included three treys as West won a big one over Belleville East (15-4) 59-44. West was led in scoring by Kaitlyn Hill with 17 points and Ieisha Adams with 15. West is now 6-9. Bellelville East star guard, Morgan Harrington is still out with her severe knee injury. The Belleville West Maroons played a solid game in fallng to the Althoff Crusaders 28-12. The Maroon's Conor Hefferenan sparkled with a 12 for 21 passing night good for 132 yards and a touchdown pass of 10 yards to Austin Brown.. Sean Lewis ran for 63 yars on 15 carries while Dustin Heggemeier collected 49 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. Mitch Matecki led the Marrons with seven tackles while Anthony Brown added five. To watch the game in coaches tape form with no play-by-play click here. Conor Heffernan's 5-yard touchdown pass to Austin Brown with 20 seconds left gave the West Maroons and new coach Ric John's a 21-18 win over a determined Highland team. The Maroons drove 62 yards with 1:35 left to play. West's Fullback Sean Lewis ran for 135 yards on 19 carries which included a 2-yard touchdown plung. Highland's Tavis Becherer was 11 for 25 for 163 yards and how touchdowns to go with three ineterceptons. West plays a road game against Althoff Friday night. Althoff dropped their opener to the number one 4A team in Kentucky, Lexington Catholic 65-28. CONGRATULATIONS TO BELLEVILLE WEST'S JOHN FLANAGAN. HE IS THE IHSA BOY'S STATE BOWLING TOURNAMENT'S INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION. HE BLISTERED THE LANES AT ST. CLAIR BOWL WITH A 236 IN HIS LAST GAME. HE RACKED UP A 12 GAME PIN TOTAL OF 2,481 TO EARN THE STATE TITLE. FOR MORE INFORMATION CHECK SUNDAY'S NEWS DEMOCRAT. HE WAS ALSO THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AT CARLINVILLE AND CURRENTLY AN ASSISTANT TO HIS BUDDY PAUL BASSLER ALSO A FOMER BELLEVILLE EAST PLAYER AT TRIAD. RIC'S SQUAD RACKED UP SEVEN SEASONS OF 10 OR MORE WINS. HE REPLACES ONE OF OUR ALL-TIME FAVORITES DENNIS SNEPP WHO IS RETIRING. Denis Snepp who resigned as the football coach at West is one of our all-time favorites. A terrific man and a solid football coach. |
